We have plenty of guyabano trees in our backyard in the province.  When I was young, we would climb the big guyabano trees.  We would look for ripe ones by just pressing its body.

My siblings and I would know that guyabano is ripe when the fruit looks mature, shiny and the spikes is stretched and far apart.

We would get fruit from a number of guyabano trees and there are 2 kinds of variety. One is really sweet and the other one is not as sweet and more sour.

Consuming guyabano has a number of health benefits, some of which are the following:

1. High Flavonoids Content

Flavonoids are phytochemicals that have been found to inhibit or even prevent the growth of viruses, carcinogens, and allergens.

2.  Lowers Blood Sugar

Diabetics consume guyabano to lower their blood sugar.  Tests showed that guyabano is even more effective in lowering blood glucose levels than the most commonly used drug for diabetics which is Metformin.

3. Prevent Cancer Cells from Forming

Consumption of guyabano extract slows own tumor growth.

2. Condensed Milk- to make it sweeter and beautiful consistency

How to Make Guyabano Smoothie

It is just easy and fast to make this smoothie. First is get the pulp of the guyabano by removing its skin and seeds.

Put it in the blender together with ice cubes, condensed milk and a little bit of water for a more smooth consistency. Adjust taste to your liking and serve.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Guyabano Pulp deseeded
  • 1/2 Cup Condensed Milk
  • 2 cups Ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup ice cold water

Instructions

  • Remove skin and seed of guyabano and get the pulp.
  • Put the pulp, condensed milk, ice cubes and water in blender.
  • Blend all the ingredients until you get your desired consistency. Adjust taste to your liking and serve immediately.
