Cost: $6
- 500 grams Ripe guava chopped in small pieces
- 250 grams White sugar
- 2 pcs Lime you may substitute lemon
Slice the guava into small pieces.
Put it into the cooking pot and add 3 cups of water.
Cook it in a medium heat for about 20 minutes. When the guavas are stewed and become tender, and the water reduced, remove it from heat and mashed the guava.
Put the stewed guava including the water where you boil it into a strainer. The goal is to remove its seeds and just get the guava juice which will be used for the jelly.
In the same pot, put again the filtered guava juice, sugar and lime. Cook it in a low to medium fire stirring it every now and then until the sugar caramelized. When the mixture is reduced and its consistency is like the honey, it is done. Voila, you now have your home-made guava jam.
